The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) mission is to diagnose HIV-positive persons, provide antiretroviral therapy, and achieve global viral suppression for HIV. The Global Health Supply Chain HIV Rapid Test Kit Program (GHSC-RTK) is the main procurement agent for PEPFAR HIV self-tests. The HIV self-tests combat the global HIV epidemic by providing testing supplies to populations with limited access to health care providers, advanced laboratory equipment, or training. The Remote Medical International team’s mission is to assist GHSC-RTK by procuring and shipping HIV rapid and self-tests to partners who can serve these populations.
Remote Medical International’s GHSC-RTK goals are to procure HIV rapid and self-tests for an on-time delivery of over 85%, communicate with 23 different country representatives and verify HIV rapid and self-test funding received from the PEPFAR and USAID initiative.
Remote Medical International has procured over 109 million rapid and self-tests kits across the life of the project, with over 50 million expected to be delivered in 2018. Our on-time delivery has exceeded 90% since Q1 of 2017, significantly above the target of 85%.
By the end of 2018, Remote Medical International expects to have procured over one million self-test kits, which allow individuals without advanced medical training to administer the test. The demand for HIV self-tests has the potential to grow from one million tests in 2017 to between 12.9 million and 19.3 million by the end of 2020, according to the UNITAID report.
The Remote Medical International team also maintains consistent communication for HIV rapid and self-test orders to 23 different countries, including: Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, DRC, Ethiopia, Haiti, Lesotho, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, South Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Remote Medical International has been recognized as one of the top 20 USAID contractors for its work on the Global Health Supply Chain HIV Rapid Test Kit Program.
