Lead Paragraph/Summary

USAID has published the Overview of Contraceptive and Condom Shipments FY2019 report. This report summarizes the quantities and value of contraceptives and condoms delivered with support from USAID's family planning and reproductive health initiatives in fiscal year 2019. It provides comparisons with fiscal year 2018 and presents the 10-year trends from fiscal year 2010 to 2019.

Highlights include:

  • The overall total delivered value for contraceptives and condoms in fiscal year 2019 was $39.1 million. The total number of countries ordering, 23, remained the same as fiscal year 2018.

  • Africa continues to account for the highest delivered value among all regions and for all methods except for the Standard Days Method and female condoms. The region accounts for 87 percent of the total delivered value.

  • Contraceptive implants and injectable contraceptives continue to account for the highest value among contraceptives, accounting for 81 percent of the total delivered value.

  • Those two methods accounted for 96 percent and 78 percent, respectively, in the Africa region, and saw a delivered value decrease of 34 percent and 22 percent, respectively.

  •  Implants and injectables are also the most requested contraceptives. Of 23 countries ordering these methods in fiscal year 2019, 17 countries ordered contraceptive implants and 18 ordered injectable contraceptives.

  • Government programs remain the largest recipient of commodities, decreasing by only 2 percent in fiscal year 2019.
