Guinea’s government is working with the USAID Global Health Supply Chain Program-Procurement and Supply Management (GHSC-PSM) project to ensure sustained operations of its health system logistics management information system (LMIS). GHSC-PSM is transferring the skills needed to administer and further develop the nation’s electronic LMIS (eLMIS) to government staff and partners. A highly functional eLMIS is a critical tool for the effectiveness of the national health supply chain system. It allows efficient management of health logistics information and decision making that impact the availability of health commodities and respond to the needs of the government and people of Guinea.
In December 2023, GHSC-PSM held a training workshop for computer scientists from the Department for the Service to Modernize the Health Information System (SMSI), the National Directorate of Pharmacies and Medicines (DNPM), and two private firms specializing in software development, e-MSanté SARL and Kouma Academy. Specialists from the Ministry of Health (MOH)/SMSI were trained to configure and administer national health logistics management tools.

The training also created a new public-private partnership, where MOH staff and local private experts learned how to co-operate these critical tools.
At the closing ceremony to celebrate this approach, the USAID mission representative in Guinea expressed that “this training is an opportunity for Guinea to work towards technical independence. USAID is committed to building the sustainability of national achievements through stakeholders of the public and private sectors, [including] through the GHSC-PSM project. We will continue to support further opportunities to improve Guinea’s health system and the health of its population.”

Following the workshop, trainers will continue to coach and mentor select public and private computer scientists and other relevant staff. The MOH and GHSC-PSM will identify suitable administrators to take over management of the system and formally hand over the administration and management of the national electronic LMIS.
